Decision details

To award a contract to Virgin Media Business to install and manage a Wide Area Network.

Decision Maker: Chief Executive

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: No

Purpose:

The Primary data centre is being re-located to Cupid Green Depot, Hemel Hempstead (currently located in Amersham) and the Secondary data centre is located at the Forum, Hemel Hempstead.
The Council’s current contract for the Wireless Network is due to expire in September 21. To prepare for the primary data centre being moved in December, the Council are keen to get the Wireless Network installed for testing by August 21.

Decision:

To award a contract to Virgin Media Business to install and manage a Wide Area Network between the Council’s primary data centre, secondary data centre and 5 other commercial sites.

Alternative options considered:

The Wide Area Network offers connectivity between our primary site, secondary site and other commercial properties. Without the WAN, the Council would not have the required level of connectivity, resilience or security in our network.
The Council could run an open market tender process or a mini competition however both these solutions would take a number of months which would mean the Council would not have sufficient time to implement the WAN.
